KCDS has been a registered non-profit society active in Burnaby and New Westminster for over 20 years. Founded in 2004 by a group of parent volunteers, our non-profit society was inspired by the teaching and mentorship of Kathleen Carlsen. Kathleen is a respected highland dance instructor known for developing confident and community-minded young dancers. KCDS supports and promotes youth highland dancers by providing performance opportunities and promoting the cultural and artistic aspects of highland dance.
Beyond technical instruction and performances, KCDS’s purpose has always been to make highland dance accessible, inclusive, and community-minded for youth. Through scholarships, costume-sharing programs, and local performance opportunities, KCDS endeavors for every dancer regardless of financial means, to participate fully in the artistry and culture of highland dance.
